Oh those pesky oddly-shaped houses. If I had a nickel for every person who asked me about the bagua placement of an odd shaped house I could be quite the philanthropist! If you have one of these bagua-confused homes, fear not. There is a basic premise that I fall back upon when someone asks me this question and that is “What is closest to you as the most impact on you.”
If your house has a strange shape and the bagua map is next to impossible to figure out, go with the baguas that are closer to you. There is a bagua for each room, so why not use it? Simply use the door to the room to orient that room’s bagua. The room’s wall that has the door on it is the part of the bagua that includes the “Skills and Knowledge Gua,” the “Career Gua,” and the “Helpful People and Travel Gua.” If the room has more than one doorway, use the door that you would most likely enter through if you were coming from the architecturally-intended front door of the whole house.
Do you have to enhance each area of each room’s bagua to make it all work? No. I’d start by figuring out what you want to change in your life and then start enhancing or changing things in the rooms where you spend the most time.

Now let’s say you don’t even have a good spot to change anything in the room. What do you do then? I’d say work on the baguas of the furniture! The “entry of your desk” is where you sit so orient the bagua over the desk top from there. Believe it or not, the foot of the bed is the doorway for a bed, so the water for the Career Gua is at your feet and the fire of the Fame and Reputation Gua is at the head. (Of course, I use the bagua’s color pattern under the bed or something like that to avoid enhancing and ending up with “the princess and the pea” scenario! (See page 158 of Move Your Stuff, Change Your Life for the color pattern.)
You can hardly go wrong enhancing this way as long as you have your intended outcome in mind as you are working your “closer-to-you” baguas!
One final word: Be sure to observe and be aware of any opportunities or changes in your life once you begin, so you can rearrange or tweak accordingly if necessary. The more you can fine tune your feng shui “cures,” the more likely the specific outcome you intended will follow.
