A professional Feng Shui consultation is a wonderful way to experience the benefits of Feng Shui firsthand. But if you are unsure of how to go about hiring a consultant, you may find the following information helpful: The practice of Feng Shui is diverse and multifaceted. There are many different schools and perspectives – all valid, all effective, and all beneficial. I would recommend finding a consultant who practices the style you prefer or are most comfortable with. For example, I practice “Black Hat,” or “Black Sect” or “BTB” style. So, if you have read my book, Move Your Stuff, Change Your Life!, and you’re looking for a consultant who practices like me, ask them if they practice “black sect style,” and they’ll know what you are talking about. If you have no idea what that style you are looking for or what style the consultant you found practices, ask the consultant to describe their style, along with what some possible cures or recommendations might be, to help familiarize yourself with that particular consultant’s style. You might find it helpful to begin your search in what I would say is the most respected feng shui site around:
- The International Feng Shui Guild’s website: www.ifsguild.org
- The Guild’s members adhere to International Feng Shui Guild Code of Ethics, upholding a high degree of professionalism and standards.
Questions to ask the Consultant before scheduling your consultation:
- 1. What are your credentials?
- Are they a member of the International Feng Shui Guild?
- What type of education do they have
- How many years have they been in practice
- Have they published any articles or books
- Special achievements
- References/Testimonials
- 2. Does your practice have a specialty focus?
- Residential, Commercial and/or Landscape
- Clutter clearing
- Organizing
- Home Staging
- Other (like healthy homes from a bau-biology perspective)
- 3. What can I expect during the consultation?
- How long does a consultation take?
- Should my spouse and/or children be there?
- Shall I organize and clear out any clutter before the consultation?
- Do you charge by the hour or flat rate?
- Is a follow up call (or calls) included in the consultation?
- 4. Can you do a consultation long-distance, or from a floor plan?
- 5. Can you tell me some success stories from your clients (perhaps with regard to the situation in your life that you are looking to change)?
